There are various sources of Information for Women farmers throughout the world, which can be utilized by the women farmers for growth and development of their knowledge base.

Introduction:

  • Currently, women are joining men in various fields. The position and status of women in various fields like military, space, business, politics, employment, agriculture, animal husbandry, etc. is gradually increasing.
  • In this way women are working shoulder to shoulder with men in every field and are participating in the progress of the country.
  • The contribution of women in agriculture, animal husbandry and other allied activities has been immeasurable. When women farmers work in agriculture, they work with emotion and heart.
  • The women farmers work very diligently and conscientiously with full responsibility in each of the various farming tasks like weeding, harvesting, value addition etc.
  • Similarly, the presence of women herdsmen at every stage is indispensable in animal husbandry.
  • Before independence, agriculture was only a means of livelihood but in the modern age of globalization, agriculture has taken the form of an industry. In such a developing era, farmers and women farmers also have to do modern/scientific farming instead of manual farming and keep their eyes and ears open and keep abreast of new technologies, research, market systems, market prices, company news etc. and accordingly bring a radical change in their farming.
  • We have to keep pace with the times. In this situation, if women want to do ideal agriculture, ideal animal husbandry, then they have to continuously increase their knowledge and for that they have to take the help of different means through which they can make a radical change in their agriculture and animal husbandry business and contribute to the globalized world.
  • The knowledge of farmers is continuously increasing through different mediums but till date the knowledge of women farmers who have been neglected in this regard can be greatly benefited in farming and animal husbandry business because most of the decisions taken by farmer brothers are agricultural- Implementation in animal husbandry is done by women farmers only.

(1) Personal visit:

  • A woman farmer should visit the following various places and special persons to acquire various agriculture related knowledge.

(a)Agricultural Research Centre(ARC):

  • Visiting the headquarters of the Agricultural Universities of the state and their research centers gives the farmer sisters direct contact with the scientists and other officials and solves the problems faced in agriculture immediately.
  • Apart from this, there is a direct demonstration of how farming and animal husbandry are done using modern methods at the research center. Seeing that, they can implement it on her farm.

(b)Department of Agriculture,Horticulture & Animal Husbandry:

  • A visit to the state government’s Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry Department not only provides information on the latest technology but also provides detailed information on loans and subsidies under various schemes of the government.

(c)Voluntary Organization (NGO Non-Governmental Organizations):

  • In the present situation, along with the government, various non-governmental organizations are also doing the work of village development and women’s upliftment, very well and are result-oriented. There are many organizations working for the development and upliftment of rural women, so one should visit them and take advantage of their activities.

(d) Progressive farmer:

  • Visiting the farms of progressive farmers or award-winning farmer brothers and sisters can inspire progressive farmers to learn about what can be improved in our current agriculture.
  • A lot can be learned from the award-winning and record-breaking milk producer in the animal husbandry sector.
  • Apart from this it is also beneficial to visit district level ATMA office, National Horticulture Mission office, distribution centers of GSFC, GNFC, market yard, bank etc.

(e) Agricultural Fairs and Demonstrations:

  • Agricultural Fairs and Demonstrations are organized through government, cooperative and private units to provide information to the farmers about latest and latest expertise at one place.

(a) Agricultural Fair :

  • Agricultural fairs are organized at the state level by state agricultural universities, private institutions, agricultural produce market committees (market yards) and non-governmental organizations at various places.
  • Apart from this, agricultural fairs are organized at the national and international levels as well.

(a) Radio

  • Television, radio can reach a large number of people instantly, quickly and accurately, through audio-visual means of information to farmers.
  • The national channel of Doordarshan broadcasts agricultural programs in English/Hindi and other regional languages.

  • In today’s modern era, information technology is a major contribution to agriculture. CD of scientific modern farming method and ideal animal husbandry and other useful information for farmers.
  • It is prepared under the guidance of expert scientists and disseminated through the use of Internet computers and LCDs to benefit a large farmer community. Such a CD by giving the cable operators to broadcast it at a time convenient to the farmers, the information can be conveyed to a large number of farmers quickly.

(4)Agricultural Literature:

  • Agricultural literature is an integral part of agricultural extension, as it can convey a lot of information in a very short time to the marginal farmer at a nominal cost in Hindi/English/Regional languages published by Agriculture University.
  • GNFC/MGOs/Some Social Institutions provides up-to-date information to farmers every month at a very nominal rate. Apart from this many magazines like Krishivijnyan (Rajkot), Aklana (Bhuj), Vivekgram (Mandvi), Jatan (Vadodara), Lokvani (Ahmedabad), Kharti Vata (Rajkot), Environment provide farmers with fresh information on subjects like agriculture, animal husbandry, horticulture, environment etc.
  • Now even the reputed newspapers carry weekly agricultural supplements, which should be read regularly. Apart from magazines, various agricultural information folders, leaflets, pamphlets, books etc. are also published by various government/co-operative agencies as well as agricultural universities from time to time at nominal rate or free of charge which should be availed.
  • Apart from this, agricultural literature useful to women from time to time is also produced by women-affiliated organizations If there is a publication, it is also very important to read it.

(5)Agricultural Training:

  • Through training, agricultural information, guidance, knowledge and skills are imparted to the farmer so that women farmers can better and competently manage their agriculture and animal husbandry.
  • Such trainings are organized at Research Centres, Agricultural Science Centres, Farmer Training Center and Sardar Smriti Centre. Apart from this, various training classes are organized at the center or outside the center on different subjects like kitchen gardening, bakery training, sewing, horticulture etc. especially for women.
  • The duration of this type of training may be one day, three days, seven days or fifteen days. Such training classes are more useful for women in self-employment.

  • Tours for farmers are organized by various government departments, private organizations, ATMA, social organizations etc through which a lot of knowledge can be gained by visiting research centers, progressive farmers, gardens.
  • In this way, women farmers can participate in agriculture by increasing their knowledge through visits, agricultural fairs, agricultural programs of T.V., Radio, agricultural magazines, agricultural training, agricultural tours, etc.
